Organic Chemistry Interactive Tutorials
The Organic Chemistry Tutorials were developed in collaboration with Dr. Tiffany Gierasch at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County. The development platform is fairly simple and can be adapted to a variety of subjects. Animations and interactive presentations were created in Keynote (Apple's version of Powerpoint) and then exported as a flash movie. Basic preloaders constructed using Actionscript 3.0 in Flash. If you can create a powerpoint presentation, you can create an interactive tutorial using this method. Sadly, it appears that Apple has removed the export to flash functionality in iWork '09. Bad news indeed.

The Orgo Comic Story

This is a short flash movie about my experience taking organic chemistry. The file is a bit large but there is no preloader so be forewared that if you click on the link, you'll see a blank screen for the 30 seconds or so that it takes to load. I think it's amusing enough to be worth it.

Functional Neuronatomy Concept Tutorials

The Functional Neuroanatomy Tutorials are in the early stages of development in collaboration with Dr Susan Courtney. Tutorials will address the organizing concepts of
  • Functional Specialization
  • Distributed Representation (population codes)
  • Functional Topographies (place codes)
  • Parallel (vs Serial) Processing
  • Hierarchical Processing

Organic Chemistry Reaction Synthesis Map

I created this reaction synthesis map as a study aid while taking the first semester of orgo. The map contains "routes" between organic compounds that can be used in determining an appropriate series of reactions to synthesize an end product. The map represents the entire semesters worth of reactions. I used this map to study by printing the blank version and filling in the appropriate reactions as a means for memorizing them. I'm currently working on a version that's already filled in so others might be able to make use of it as well.
